Radon Testing

Radon testing is important in Colorado Springs because radon is a deadly carcinogen, radioactive gas that is generated through the breakdown of uranium inside the earth. You cannot see, smell or taste radon. Another aspect of radon that makes it extremely dangerous is that it primarily dwells where you feel most secure—your home. When you breathe radon infected air, you increase your chances of getting lung cancer. The Surgeon General even warns that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.

How Radon Is Measured In Colorado

Radon is measured in units called picocuries per liter (pCi/L). A picocurie is extremely small ,just one trillionth of a curie, the amount of radioactivity emitted by a single gram of radium. The (EPA) has established 4 pCi/L as the standard for your average indoor air. A house that tests out at levels higher than 4 pCi/L are highly encouraged to undergo radon mitigation to reduce radon levels.

To see if your home qualifies for radon mitigation, schedule a radon test with Colorado Radon Specialist. We will help ensure your home's safety.

Radon Mitigation Explained

Why & How To Test For Radon

The reason you should test for radon is because the U.S Surgeon General’s office recommends testing your home for Radon and retesting any time that you make structural changes to your home or if you occupy a previously unused level of the house, particularly a lower level. This is because any structural change you make can cause for potential radon leaks and may need mitigation.

Basic awareness, detection and remediation of radon is key. You can purchase a basic test from many hardware stores or online. Some places such as Home Depot even offer basic testing . These tests can then be sent to a laboratory for results. These are passive tests and can be reasonably accurate if you follow all directions carefully. The downside is one inaccuracy can cause for an inaccurate reading leaving your home vulnerable to radon!

As full-service radon mitigation provider, we can come to your home and activate a test in the optimal area of the home. We use top of the line radon monitors which give extremely accurate readings for every hour for at least 48 hours. These monitors have an internal memory and are completely tamper proof, it will even note if a door or window was opened during the test. We will pick up the test and provide you with a comprehensive report.

If your test results show a level of 4pCi/L or above you will need to take steps to remedy the problem as soon as possible.

We will be happy to answer any questions and talk you through the mitigation process as well as supplying you with a full quote for any work that will need to be completed.
